![]() In the television show, Stepney was set for scrap in the Season 4 episode "Rusty to the Rescue" in which the narrow gauge diesel Rusty actually was involved in saving the Bluebell engine from his demise. Stepney also had to brave his own way through the main line and past some nasty diesels who glared at him (as during that time, diesels were portrayed in a negative light in the books due to the modernization plan) whilst traveling on his way to Sodor. In other words, the Bluebell Railway was portrayed as a real railway in England. In the books, Stepney was written in as an actual real engine from the mainland as a means to introduce railway preservation and heritage railways into the series. Now Stepney has an interesting story in that his book and TV counterparts were quite different to one another.
